![]() I think LibreOffice fills the gap for those who just need a general-purpose Document processor from time to time or use it's web-based version by Collabora to collaborate. All of these require more or less experience and reading documentation. For notes, simple text-based collaboration and even website publishing I recommend markdown. Technically also for presentations, but I didn't bother so far. For scientific publishing and documents there is LaTeX. Although Open office still is free (with Oracle offering a commercial, paid version of the software with added features like technical support), Libre Office retains the original Open Office (which was first named StarOffice) philosophy of being open and free to this end, Libre Office is both free and open-source, with its code base being written and expounded upon by its community.Opmerkingen: It's not easy to specify LibreOffice's niche, and it depends a lot on the technical abilities of the users. Forked from Oracle's Open Office suite, Libre Office is essentially the same, with a few subtle improvements that those who use either may not be able to spot unless they are specifically looking for something (for example, Libre Office supports more languages than Open Office). ![]() Just as Open Office is an alternative to Microsoft Office (and Corel's Office applications, to a lesser extent), Libre Office fulfills the same role to Open Office. ![]() It also features native support for Open Office Math files. Like the other members of the Libre Office suite, Math can export to PDF directly, and the generated equations can then be embedded into OpenOffice-created files, such as a document by Writer. The Libre Office Math application is the seventh application in the current roster of the Libre Office suite and is meant to create and edit mathematical notations, similar to Microsoft’s Equation Editor (which is not exactly a Microsoft Office application, rather a shared tool). ![]()
